The Author
I am a video game programmer. I work primarily in C++ in my “day” job. Frankly, I don’t program as much as I used to. I’m not going to go into a lot of detail on what precisely I do. You can probably find out if you care to.
Because I don’t program as much as I used to, I do enjoy messing around with programming in my spare time. Lately, that’s taken a turn towards web development, which in a round-about way has led to this blog.
The Blog
I’ve been thinking on and off about starting a blog for at least ten years. It isn’t motivated by having something I want people to hear. That would be cool, but it really isn’t the point. I’ve just wanted a place to organize some notes on math and programming, and maybe things I have to say on other subjects.
What directly led to this Blog was this post by Randall Degges. It describes how to deploy a static web site with to AWS, and use CloudFront to deliver it efficiently. I neglected to mention, that i also spent a bit of time toying around with AWS, so I already had an AWS account, and some relevant experience. All I needed was a way to make static web sites with math notation, follow the recipe Randall had helpfully provided, and I had my blog.
I soon found some excellent solutions for making static blogs including math, and here we are!
Colophon
This blog was put together with Hexos. I’m using Christopher Martin’s wonderful Bootstrap Blog theme. I’ve switched from Hexos’ built-in Markdown support to using Pandoc so that I can use a more extended markdown syntax. (I discovered this when I wrote a test post in which I used a footnote.) I added Mathjax support with some help from this blog post.
